With a torn ACL, MCL, patella ligament and dislocated knee cap Baron Davis’s career looks to be in jeopardy. In game 4 of the NBA playoff series the New York Knicks vs the Miami Heat, Davis drove in on a fast brake and came down hard on his knee. If you were to watch the play you could actually see the knee cap pop and ligaments kind of just SNAP. The entire Heat bench and some Knick players where so horrified and disgusted with what they had witnessed (as seen in the video below). Davis was carried off in a stretcher after being down on the ground for a good 2 minutes in excruciating pain.
My thoughts his Basketball career as a player is done. Most people who tear their ACL never come back the same; Davis is 33 years old and by the time he finishes his recovery he’ll be 34 years old; Davis who also be a free agent and if he gets signed wouldn’t be a starter like he is now, more like a 3rd stringer. So It looks to me that Davis will hang up the jersey.
Davis who played two years at UCLA was a superstar. Considerably the best during his college era.
Davis played 13 seasons in the NBA; starting when he was drafted in 99 by the Hornets. Davis was traded in 2005 to the Golden State Warriors, then in 08 when he was a free agent he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, who then traded him in 2011 to the Cavs, who later released him. Davis then signed a contract with the Knicks for the 2011-2012 season.
This isn’t the first time Davis has torn his ACL, back in college he did it and if I’m correct he did it once more in his pro career. So is three times the charm? Davis becomes the third player this post season to tear an ACL. I wish Davis the best in his recovery and success in whatever he plans to do.
